Salon Review: Jamie Stevens at Errol Douglas

Posted on Aug 16 2008 11:13 AM by adnana

It's always a treat to sit beneath the scissors of master stylist, and Jamie Stevens is certainly that. Not only is he Art Director at the prestigious Errol Douglas salon, he's also the Creative Ambassador for GHD's (you can swoon now girls) as well as being a celebrity stylist, and it was his scissors I was perched under.

Essie Fall 2008 Nail Polish Collection Keeps in Character for Fall

Posted on Aug 11 2008 6:33 AM by adnana

Good morning, friends. I hope you’re having a good weekend so far. I’m sitting here at my desk, playing with nail polish and surfing the Net for beauty news.
Check out Essie’s fall polish line ($8 each). Keeping in character for fall, the collection features deep plum, berry and cherry shades that look good enough to eat (I’m always hungry, LOL!).
Sometimes I shy away from uber-dark shades because of how obvious it can be when they chip, so I’m glad Essie decided not to go too vampire dark with these colors.

MAC Cult of Cherry: A Look at Some Lipsticks

Posted on Aug 11 2008 6:29 AM by adnana

MAC’s product marketing describes the shade as a “clean grape burgundy.” On me it’s a cool 40’s-style red with a touch of purple. I think it’s one of the most stunning shades I’ve seen in a while. It makes me want to don fishnets and dance to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy!

Product review: Phenomen'eyes Mascara from Givenchy

Posted on Aug 09 2008 8:52 AM by adnana

There's been quite a lot of furore over the new Givenchy Phenomen'eyes mascara we mentioned here.People were unsure whether the strangely spherical wand would actually give good coverage, and if applying it at a vertical angle would mean you poked yourself in the eyes.

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow: A Quick Look

Posted on Aug 08 2008 5:45 AM by adnana

The Benefit brand sorta slipped under my radar for a couple years, but I used to be a big fan.

Back when I worked in downtown SF and every other person worked for a dot com (*rolls eyes*), I remember wearing Benetint and Dr. Feelgood. I’m not sure why I stopped following the line. I guess it fell into the same black hole that swallowed my Hello Kitty lunch box and black jelly bracelets.

Clinique Fall 2008: Game, Set, Matte

They’re baaaaaack. No, I’m not talking about poltergeists, Carol Anne. I’m referring to a resurgence of matte makeup products. Shine and shimmer have dominated makeup for the last several years, but more and more matte lipsticks, eye shadows and blushes appear each day.

Bobbi Brown Pretty Pink Metallic Lip Color: Yeah, It’s Good

Posted on Aug 08 2008 5:41 AM by adnana

When it comes to pink lipsticks, I am a one-woman army. I’ve been hoarding them since high school. My arsenal is such that if hostile aliens landed and the fate of the world hinged on our ability to scare them away with tubes of pink lipstick, the Earth would prevail! I’d whip out one of my new favorite pink shades for fall, Bobbi Brown’s Pretty Pink Metallic Lip Color ($22), and wave it above my head like a light saber.

Salon Review: Hydrodermabrasion at Hydro Healing

One of these days I'm going to have a facial that's relaxing. You know, the type where they light scented candles, mutter insipid nothings into my ear, and let me drift off into a very expensive 45 minute nap.

Product Review: Collection 2000 Magi-Length Mascara

Posted on Jul 31 2008 3:01 AM by adnana

I normally opt for volumizing mascaras with uber thick brushes and wide wands. This has none of those factors, but I must admit to being pleasantly surprised with the quality of the mascara. I tried Collection 2000's new Magi-Length mascara (available October) in Ultra Black . It will also be available in black shimmer as well.
