The other day as I was wincing my way through a threading appointment, I noticed the women opposite me suffering a wax. My therapist had such tiny brows I decided she could only ever pluck (or there would be nothing left) so I wondered what most women do.

The Body Shop has been a longtime favorite of ours for their Body Butters (Mango and Almond are the ones we can’t live without) — but we’re now seeing The Body Shop in a whole new light with their new Hot Tropics Collection, a limited edition color collection for Summer 2007.

The Crystal Sparkle Gloss is so fun and sparkly and smells good enough to eat. In two sheer shades of pink (Santiago Pink and Acapulco Golden Pink) our summer beach bag won’t be without it.

Also, the Duo Glow loose shimmering powder in Salvador Blush and Brasilia Bronze will make any pair of shoulders glow in the sunset.

Product review: Afterglow Organic Mineral Eyeshadow

Now we all know mineral makeup is uber big this year, but when people think of minerals they tend to think of foundation, yet there's so much more than that available. Using mineral eyeshadow can be less irritating to the sensitive eye area, and the loose powder formulation creates a really gentle wash of colour. I've been testing out mineral eyeshadows,
£16 from AfterGlow and really love the consistency on my skin. The product is certified organic the Environmental Working Group and is really gentle on my eyes. I wear contact lenses and there's no discomfort with this product at all. The eyeshadows are bismuth oxychloride free, talc-free, chemical-free and dye-free, and come in an amazing selection of colours.

Using Eyebrow Stencils

Eyebrow stencils are a quick and easy way for novices to achieve perfect eyebrow shapes without complicated measurements and angles. Yet while using stencils may seem easy, they can be just as easy to use improperly and it is important to understand how to choose, use, and refine stencils to achieve the best effect.

Regardless of the type of stencil you choose, it must be used properly to achieve the best results.

Choose a stencil shape that is close to your natural brow shape (length, curve, arch); drastic changes can results in drastic expressions that look anything but natural.

Clean and groom the brow thoroughly before applying the stencil. Trim long hairs and brush the brow in the direction of growth for best results.

Apply stencil aligned to the natural beginning and ending of brow. Hold stencil firmly in place. Read the rest of this entry »

Choosing Eyebrow Shapes

Posted on Mar 26 2008 8:16 AM by adnana

Many women are unhappy with their natural brow shapes and opt for a more subtle, defined, sleek look through various beauty treatments. Before randomly plucking brows or slathering on hot wax, however, it is vital to choose a shape that will compliment and accentuate the eyes.

First, examine your natural brow shape and take note of which aspects you do not like. Is the hair too long and bushy? Are the brows too thick, or too close together? Are the ends ragged and blunt? Is the hair sparse and patchy? Defining the problem is the first step toward correcting it with a new shape.

Next, examine photos of models and celebrities to see what brow shapes they have that you find appealing. Be sure to compare them to your face shape and hair color as well, since eyebrows are part of the entire face and need to work in concert with other features, including the nose, lips, cheekbones, and hairline.

Once you have an idea about what type of shape you would like to try, it is time to create your new look.

Eyebrow SOS

Q) "Over the years, I have constantly altered the shape of my brows from thick to thin, from arched to straight. Over-plucking has taken its toll and I have many sparse gaps in my brows, which I fill in with a brow pencil. Are there any alternatives for making my brows appear full again?" - Mel, Victoria

A) "Absolutely! Getting the right shape is the first step, followed by learning to fill them in correctly," advises celebrity brow specialist Sharon-Lee.

"Too many women make the mistake of being heavy handed when doing this. What is used to fill in the brow is very important. Pencil looks like pencil and powder just doesn't have the staying power or give real definition. Water-resistant brow gel is the answer. It's easy to apply, lasts and, above all else, looks incredibly natural."

Eyebrow Makeover for Spring

Posted on Feb 12 2008 10:50 AM by adnana

The most underrated element of a beautiful makeup look is the eyebrows. Celebrity makeup artist Darrell Redleaf says the shape, including where your brow arches, where it's wide and where it's thin, is the key. Here's how to give yourself an eyebrow makeover.

Look at the inside corner of your eye, where it's closest to your nose. Pick up a pencil, a makeup brush or a ruler ‑- anything long, straight and slender. From the inside corner of your eye, follow a line straight up. If you've got an eyeliner or eyebrow pencil, mark where the line crosses your eyebrow. Do the same from the inner corner of your other eye.
